Sheet Care

Load the cotton sheets into a domestic washing machine on a temperature setting of 60°C. Use the rinse cycle if there's one available.

Egyptian cotton sheets should be washed separately from polyester sheets as some lower graded polyester fabrics tend to pill and may leave deposits on your cotton sheets. Separate washing of cottons and polyesters will give a much longer life span to your Egyptian sheets.

Egyptian sheets can normally be tumble dried though line drying is the preferred option by many people.

Tumble dried sheets should be removed from the dryer as soon as possible to avoid creasing. If creases have set in, place a damp cloth in the dryer along with the sheets and dry again for a few minutes. This should remove the creases.

A 'tog' is an industry standard name used for measuring the warmth of a duvet. The higher the tog rating, the warmer the duvet.

Togs are measured in units of thermal resistance. For instance if a duvet has a tog rating of 4.5 then it would be more likely be used in the summer months.

And at the other end of the scale, a duvet with a tog rating of 13.5 would be used in the colder months of the year.

Two Kiwi Questioners

It seems rather odd that not one but two Newzelanders have posted questions to Duvetsonline recently. Both parties have different email addresses, though this could be manipulated, not that I can think why they would want to.

The first email was from a native Newzelander writing a long and drawn out story to do with whether or not to buy from a UK company offering Duvets, bedding etc.

The second read, "Having recently moved to New Zealand, I find that their duvets do not have tog numbers and would appreciate any help you could give me as to how to understand the weights."

I'm thinking, surely he'd be better off asking some Newzeland bedding site. I'm sure they'd be better qualified to answer that one. Chances are we'll never receive another enquiry, yet alone two within one week from confused Newzelanders.

As always, we did reply back offering some help.

Like many products, items or objects, different names for each have the same meaning depending on which part of the world you live in.

I have started to research online shopping phrases related to bedding. I thought this would be a lot more simple than it's proving to be. Looking for bedding companies on Google.co.uk for the phrase, Duvets, which is recognised and used in daily life by residents of the UK, also produced websites which displayed keywords in their title and/or text such as Quilts.

On the other hand, while searching on Google.com for Duvets, many websites included Comforters in their text. Most of these sites were .com websites and originated from the USA.

Whatever you like to call them, they're a worldwide recognised product which we all, well almost all, use in our daily lives.
